TICI (totally implantable cochlear implant): The TICI incorporates all of the current external hardware within the buried device itself. The benefits of this major step in the evolution of cochlear implants include: no external hardware during use (cosmetic advantages); no external hardware like cables or speech processors to fail or be damaged; hearing 24/7 (during sleep, in the shower etc.). A few TICI’s have been implanted in Sydney Australia already.
