South Africa Cochlear™ Volunteer Program Launch

The global Cochlear™ volunteer program is now launched in South Africa through Southern ENT partnering with Cochlear™.The pioneer group of Gauteng volunteers received their training in March.

Most Cochlear implant recipients start their journey by reaching out to someone who has had a similar experience with hearing loss.It is often a great benefit to learn from someone who understands and has been through this same experience and our Volunteers can help. Volunteers work within their local community supporting individuals by answering questions, dispelling myths, allaying fears and helping individuals to have a better understanding of the implant process. Volunteers can offer guidance and share their experiences from the time of assessment, to implantation, all the way through to rehabilitation. Volunteers also raise community awareness on hearing solutions, inspire audiences by sharing personal stories and help to create a peer community that offers lifetime support and fellowship.

Southern ENT will launch the volunteer program across South Africa, to give all Cochlear implant candidates the opportunity to connect with someone who can support them in their hearing journey.
